"ELEGANT NIGHTS" HITS #1

WE ARE CELEBRATING A FANTASTIC YEAR, SO FAR, WITH MY SINGLE "ELEGANT NIGHTS" HITTING #1 ON THE USA TODAY, SMOOTH JAZZ TOP 20, AND SMOOTHJAZZ.COM INDIE AIRPLAY CHARTS.

MORE COOL NEWS, ELEGANT NIGHTS HIT THE TOP OF THE I-TUNES "HOT TRACKS LIST" FOR JAZZ.

We had a couple of great shows at Spaghettini last Friday with Vincent Ingala, Eric Valentine, Pat Kelley and Ben Shepherd.

This, after having spent the previous day at the giant NAMM Show in Anaheim, where every piece of new music gear is previewed and demoed, visiting with old friends that come from all over the world.
We saw Trombone Shorty do his whole show on the street stage......and many other cool little Namm-jams that you can see on Facebook and Youtube.

Then, Yvonne and I helped celebrate Smooth Jazz News' 15th anniversary with Melanie Maxwell and many other artists and guests at the "Spag" Sunday Brunch. I got up and jammed with Joey Sommerville, Rayford Griffin, Sekou Bunch and others. Big fun. We went straight from there to the Whisperings Radio Solo Piano Awards in Costa Mesa to see old friends David Lanz (I produced and arranged on his "Finding Paradise" and "The Good Life" CD's), Starr Parodi and 10 other pianists perform. David was nominated for Solo Piano CD of the Year.....Starr won in a previous year.

Studio News: I'm producing a few songs for David Lanz and vocalist Kristin Amarie. I just played on a few tracks for Jessy J.'s next CD with Roberto Vally, Sergio Gonzales, Richie Morales and Paul Brown Guitar/Producing. (I co-wrote Jessy's big hit, Tropical Rain).

After the holidays, and after the kids (Stevie 17 & Alex 20) went back to their Michigan schools, Yvonne and I spent a few days camping at the beach (hot in January!!). You gotta love SoCal. Surf's Up!I'm working on material for my next project, which will feature many solo piano pieces for the first time, as well as another set of songs with an expansive "World Music" feel, continuing in a similar direction as the project that got me the Grammy Award in 2013. Not that I'm changing directions or anything....I have always written a variety of music in many styles...so I'm going to keep putting it out, time permitting. I already have a few song ideas for my next funky project.
