NOTES FROM GREGG

I'm excited about the songs with some special guests in the mix. As most of you know, I have been touring with Boney James and Eric Marienthal a lot these past few years so its no surprise that they're featured on a few cuts. This CD is more "acoustic" and more romantic, but also funky at the same time. Look for it in stores everywhere and online.... The first "single" is "Blue Touch," with me on Fender Rhodes and Boney, Luis Conte, and Ricardo Silveira featured.

Half of the songs were recorded live in the studio with Will Kennedy (Yellowjackets) and Keith Jones as one group, and my old Baltimore buddy Dennis Chambers and Keith on the others. Also, Peter White guests on one song.

Now that I've lived with the music on Blue Touch for a while, I like the fact that I left most of the piano tracks as I played them the first or second time while recording them live or playing them into the computer - even if they might have a little mistake or slide out of time here or there. If you listen closley, you'll hear a few moments too. I like the terms "slippery" or "greasy". A tradition I intend to uphold on all my future projects. I always make efforts to keep the most spontaneous stuff while I'm first writing the songs by recording all my late-night piano ideas to mini disk. Later, when I arrange the song for the record, I'll often write out a solo or a section that I improvised and re-perform it for the final record. That's my way of staying true to the initial vibe of the song....
